Oktoberfest in Sing

If Germany has it's traditional Oktoberfest, Singapore has it's own version of October Festivals.


Children's Day- October 1

Im not so sure. but I think Singapore is the only place that celebrates Children's Day-bakit nga naman hindi?! We celebrate mother and father's day, then children deserve the right to have their own day! Since October 1 was a sunday, we started our day by attending the 12:30 pm mass at Holy Trinity church. Then, Nathan requested for Popeye's Chicken for lunch, which is only at the Changi Airport Terminal 1. So after mass, we headed to the airport. Joey didn't enjoy our lunch but it didn't matter-it wasn't father's day after all. What was more important Nate had a sumptous meal. Anyway, before heading home, Joey thought of dropping by Singapore Expo-there was definitely something for the kids. And he was right! There different kinds of rides and activities for the kids. Nate finally got the chance to rock climb and slide down a gigantic slide. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay long. Joey had a basketball game at 5pm and he still needed to drop by the house to get his stuff.

It was a real short children's day celebration for Nate, but he did have fun!

Mooncake Festival

Mid-september to mid-october is the season of Mooncake . I dont really know the significance of this. Some say it celebrates the last full moon of the month and it gives some historical meaning for the chinese-yeah right! Anyway, since mooncake was in the air, Joey and I thought of trying out (and eventually buying) a box of mooncake. At first we didnt know which one to buy. There were several kinds of mooncake... couldn't differentiate one from the other. But after several taste tests from all sorts of mooncake makers, we thought of buying the one from Raffles City Hotel. People said it was the best in town. It was a box with 4 mooncakes with very fine lotus paste and 2 yolks inside-YUM!!!!

Lantern Festival

The lantern festival coincides with the mooncake festival. Children usually parade around the park/ square with lighted chinese lanterns under the last full moon of the month, or is it year (not so sure). Since Melville (our community) didn't have any special activity this year, the efficient pinoy yaya's of kids around decided to bring out old chinese lanterns. The kids just stayed in the park/playground with the lanterns all lit. Inspite of not marching around, they enjoyed holding and displaying their lanterns.
